I love everything about that recipe except it makes two loaves and I knew one loaf of cream cheese-filled banana bread would be plenty.

The bread is soft, moist and the cream cheese layer is like having a layer of cheesecake baked into banana bread. No complaints here.

I had ripe bananas and cream cheese getting ready to expire and knew I needed to do something with both. And voila, this bread.

Ingredients needed for banana bread recipe: cream cheese-filled banana bread

For Bread:
  1. – 1 large egg
  2. – ½ cup light brown sugar
  3. – ¼ cup granulated sugar
  4. – ½ cup butter
  5. – ¼ cup sour cream
  6. – 2 tsp vanilla extract
  7. – 2 ripe bananas
  8. – 1 cup all-purpose flour
  9. – ½ tsp baking soda
  10. – ½ tsp baking powder
  11. – pinch of salt
For Cream Cheese Filling:
  1. – 1 large egg
  2. – 4 oz softened cream cheese
  3. – ¼ cup granulated sugar
  4. – 3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour

Instructions to prepare Bread:
1In a large bowl, mix the egg, sugars, butter, sour cream, and vanilla extract. Add the bananas, mash into the mixture.

2Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and mix. Set aside.

Instructions to prepare Cream Cheese Filling:
1In a large bowl, mix egg, cream cheese, sugar, and flour.

2Pour half of the bread batter into a 9×5-inch pan, pour the cream cheese filling, smooth into corners, top with remaining batter.

2Bake at 350ºF/180ºC for about 50 mins. Baking times may vary, so keep an eye on the bread.

3Allow cooling for 15 mins.
